A man has been arrested after allegedly using counterfeit Viagra to buy him a fake penicillin called Cialis, the New York-based health-news firm has announced.
Michael Jorgenson, 48, of Westlleah, was arrested on Wednesday in the United States in a separate case and was taken into custody by police on a temporary basis.
The investigation began when a man from the East New York community, who is believed to be the father of one of his children, phoned Jorgenson’s office to inquire about a new penicillin. The man was unable to answer and told Jorgenson that Cialis was not for him. A few days later, Jorgenson called the man at his home to say that Cialis had arrived and was on his way to a brothel in Westlleah.
“I immediately contacted the man,” Jorgenson said. “He informed me that he had been using this medicine for a while and he thought it would help him to get rid of his illness. He then asked me to call my local brothel, and I told them to take him to the brothel.”
While the man did not respond to the request, police later confirmed that he had been purchasing counterfeit Viagra from an online store. The man then phoned a customer service representative and told them he had been using the fake pills for the past three months.
“I immediately contacted the customer service at the customer service counter of the brothel and they confirmed that I had taken the counterfeit pills and that I had the fake pills,” Jorgenson said. “I was told to immediately go to the nearest brothel, they had been in touch and I was contacted by the customer service.”
The man had no medical reason to suspect that he had taken the fake Viagra, but the New York Times reports that he “had no idea he was taking counterfeit Viagra”.
Investigators later learned that Jorgenson had purchased the fake Viagra and had bought it from a pharmacy near Westlleah, the New York Times reports. The prescription is for “tadalafil,” a drug used in erectile dysfunction, and “sildenafil” (generic for Viagra), the brand name for the medication. Both have been available for purchase since 2003 and both have had good reviews. Viagra and Cialis are similar drugs that are used to treat erectile dysfunction. Both drugs are used to treat pulmonary hypertension and blood pressure issues.
The man was also charged with possession of the fake Viagra and with selling the fake pills, according to the New York Daily News.
